One office, county-wide service

All of our work runs through the Yuma office, and most owners start with a phone call or the online form. Distances on these pages are straight-line miles from our office to the Census Bureau's reference point for each place. They are not driving distances, and for large places the reference point can be far from where most businesses are.

For context, Yuma County had 3,376 employer establishments in 2023, and 1,661 of them had fewer than five employees (Census County Business Patterns, 2023, Yuma County). Another 13,837 businesses had no paid employees in 2024 (Census Nonemployer Statistics, 2024, Yuma County). The two counts come from different programs and years, so they can't simply be added together.

Yuma

Our office is inside Yuma city limits. ZIP 85364, where it sits, had 1,466 employer establishments in 2023, including 297 in health care and social assistance and 203 in retail trade (Census ZIP Code Business Patterns, 2023, ZIP 85364). Yuma is also home to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, which covers five square miles of the city's southeast side (MCAS Yuma). Our Yuma business financing page covers the local economy, resources for owners and our office.

San Luis

San Luis is an incorporated city on the border, about 15 straight-line miles from our office to its Census reference point. It is home to the San Luis port of entry, whose San Luis II facility handles commercial operations (U.S. Customs and Border Protection). ZIP 85349, which lies mostly inside the city, had 221 employer establishments in 2023, with construction the largest of the sectors broken out at 48 (Census ZIP Code Business Patterns, 2023, ZIP 85349). Read more about business funding in San Luis, AZ.

Somerton

Somerton is an incorporated city about 7.5 straight-line miles from our office to its Census reference point. Its ZIP, 85350, also covers a large rural area beyond the city, so ZIP figures describe a wider area: 181 employer establishments in 2023, including 48 in construction and 10 in support activities for agriculture (Census ZIP Code Business Patterns, 2023, ZIP 85350). Read more about business funding in Somerton, AZ.

Fortuna Foothills

Fortuna Foothills is an unincorporated community, a Census Designated Place, where Yuma County is the local government. Its ZIP, 85367, carries "Yuma" as its postal city name and lies almost entirely within the community. That ZIP had 222 employer establishments in 2023, with accommodation and food services the largest sector broken out at 43 (Census ZIP Code Business Patterns, 2023, ZIP 85367). Read more about business funding in Fortuna Foothills, AZ.

Wellton

Wellton is an incorporated town about 24 straight-line miles from our office to its Census reference point. Its postal ZIP, 85356, also includes part of Tacna and Wellton Hills. That ZIP had 50 employer establishments in 2023, 24 of them with fewer than five employees, including 9 in retail trade and 9 in accommodation and food services (Census ZIP Code Business Patterns, 2023, ZIP 85356). We were not able to verify the town's own business pages online, so check local licensing directly with the Town of Wellton. Wellton businesses can work with us by phone at (928) 436-5545 or through our online application.

Other Yuma County communities

We also work with businesses in smaller unincorporated communities around Yuma, including Avenue B and C, Gadsden, Rancho Mesa Verde, Donovan Estates, Wall Lane, El Prado Estates, Orange Grove Mobile Manor and Tacna. These are Census Designated Places, where Yuma County is the local government. The Arizona Corporation Commission advises registering a business "with the city in which the business is located (or county if you are in an unincorporated area)" (ACC, 10 Steps to Starting a Business in Arizona). County economic development information is on Yuma County's economic development page.

Many of these communities share a ZIP code with a larger place. Gadsden, for example, is in ZIP 85336, whose postal name is San Luis. That's why we don't publish separate business statistics for them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to come to the Yuma office?

No. You can start by phone at (928) 436-5545 or with our online form. Our office is at 360 W 20th St if you'd like to meet in person.

Do you work with businesses in unincorporated areas?

Yes. Communities such as Fortuna Foothills, Avenue B and C and Gadsden are unincorporated, with Yuma County as the local government. Funding options and the broker process are the same wherever in the county your business is.

Are the distances on these pages driving distances?

No. They are straight-line miles from our office to the Census Bureau's reference point for each place. Road distance is longer, and the reference point for a large place may be far from its business district.

Why do the business numbers use ZIP codes instead of city names?

Federal establishment counts are published by the ZIP code of each business's address, and ZIP codes don't follow city limits. Each page explains how closely its ZIP matches the community.

Question not on the list? Call (928) 436-5545 to talk it through with our Yuma office.
